If you are trying to push through a crowded store or want to climb up a steep flight of stairs with a stroller, you will understand what we mean.
How to use the baby backpack
If you are used to go camping then baby backpack is just right for you to carry your baby on it. Baby backpacks are same as camping-style backpacks with the only difference of a seat for a baby instead of storage compartment for gear. They come in variety of sizes and models with plenty of optional features. Most of them are supported by a lightweight aluminum frame that helps in even distribution of your child’s weight over your shoulders and hips. If the baby is ready to sit on his own then you can put him in the backpack, usually when the baby grows 5 or 6 months older they are comfortable in the backpacks until then, you may have to stick to the front-style carrier. Some of the front-style carriers can be converted into a back carrier as well. Check out the stores if you can find a carrier of that type if you are on a budget.
Although most of the manufacturers claim that you can haul your child on the back in a backpack until he weighs 40 pounds, but it is advisable not to do so. Most of the parents switch to strollers when their child gets heavier.
Getting Accustomed to Backpack
Using a backpack might take some time getting used to it. The first time when you buy it you might have to make the necessary adjustments to make it comfortable. Check whether the weight is distributed evenly. If it isn’t distributed and your back is bearing all the weight instead of the hips and legs then you might need to adjust the backpack.
Though there are few negative aspects of backpack like, it’s difficult to remove a sleeping baby from the pack without waking up the baby and your baby won't be able to see your baby properly when he is in the pack. There are instances when some children swipe off the things from the grocery shelves. Backpacks are often cumbersome to put on and take off without another person’s help. In spite of all these problems backpack is worth using as per the parents.
Things which needs attention while buying a backpack
Check for comfort: When you go out to buy a backpack make sure that you and your child are feeling comfortable with it. Try it out and make sure it’s not too heavy. Put your child inside and check whether the weight is being distributed evenly or not, is your neck or back feeling any strain, or is the weight falling on your hips? Check whether the straps are properly padded. Check if there is a strap which can be tied across the chest to take off the weight from the shoulders and to prevent you from slouching. Check whether the leg openings for the child are properly padded. Check if the fabric is soft enough so that it does not irritate the baby’s skin and will it be cool enough to carry the baby out on a sunny day. Check all the points before you decide on a backpack.
Check for safety: The backpack must have a safety strap to protect the child from falling. There should be a strap which goes across the shoulders and another one across the chest. Some packs comes with reflective straps which you might want to have when you are out or when it is night.
Flexibility: Backpacks comes in different varieties. Choose a pack which has an adjustable inside seat where your child can use it as he grows. A removable canopy is good to have during sunny or drizzly days. A removable plastic rain cover will also be helpful for an unexpected rainy day. Some backpack also provides lots of storage space like the pockets for cell phones, water bottles, diapers, etc. The most amazing backpack is the one which is a combination of both a stroller as well as a backpack. It can be converted from one thing to another depending upon the need.
Easy to use: Initially it is difficult to put on and take off the pack on our own. But once you practice it you will get used to it. Check whether it has a stand so that you can place it on a table while trying it on. The stand should be stable enough so that it does not fall over and trip your child over too easily. Some backpacks have automated system where the stand kicks out automatically when you take your arms out of the pack. The straps must be easily adjustable and fit to the body of other adults too, who will be taking care of the baby along with you. If you find it too cumbersome to use then you may want to buy another pair one for each.
Cleaning: Lastly, the fabric must be washable. The fabric must be durable and must be easily cleaned or wiped off. Some backpacks come with the fabric which can be removed for washing.
A backpack ranges from $30 to $100 or more. The prices vary depending upon the brand and the special features associated with the backpack.
