Toweling Nappies and how to put them on Baby

Toweling nappies are a once only buy which makes them more economic. They come in variety of absorbency and qualities. The more absorbent the nappy the more expensive it is. It is held together with special pins and covered with reusable plastic pants to prevent leakage.

One way liner can be placed inside the nappy to help keep your baby dry; this method also has the added advantage of allowing you to flush any motion down the lavatory with minimum of bother.

How to put on a toweling nappy: Toweling nappy can be folded in a variety of ways to suit the age and sex of your child.

Step 1: Fold Nappy and place a linear in the center. Lay your baby on the nappy with top edge at waist. Now bring nappy up between the baby legs.

Step 2: Holding the nappy in place, fold one side over the central panel and secure with a nappy pin.

Step 3: Fold the other side into the middle and secure. Always keep your finger between the nappy and your baby’s skin when inserting the pin so that there is no risk of pricking your baby.

Step 4: Once the nappy is securely in place you may want to put on a pair of protective plastic pants. Try not to get cross if your baby wets clean nappy immediately and you have to start all over again.

When working out the price of toweling nappies, you need to take into account the cost of washing powder, the electricity used for washing and drying them, sterilizing solution, plastic wraps, nappy liners and clips.

Toweling nappies are harder work than disposables because they need washing, so a washing machine and tumble dryer will make life easier for you. The nappies also need to be sterilized, rinsed, washed and dried. Then they should be aired before being reused.

Nappy Changing: How and When!

Nappies are produced in a variety of types, styles and sizes, but the basic choice is still between disposable and toweling nappies. Then are different newborn diapers. Ideally, you should decide which type of nappy you are going to use before your baby arrives. You will need to take in to account a number of factors : your life style, the amount of time and money you have available, and the type of washing and drying facilities you will be using.

Which ever nappy you choose, the technique required for changing a baby bottom are the same. And yes, nappy changing would be a bad experience initially. You should change your bay whenever he is wet or dirty. The number of changes may vary from day to day, but generally you will have to change your baby first thing in the morning, after each feed, after a bath, and before bed at night. Get everything you need together before you start so that there is no reason to leave the baby unattended while you are changing the nappy.

Make sure that the room where you are changing your new baby is warm and free from draughts. Lie your baby on a folded towel or changing mat, placed on the floor, a table, or on the bed, making sure that a wriggling infant cannot roll off if you are changing the nappy on the raised surface.

Remove the soiled nappy and clean your baby's bottom thoroughly, wipe away any solid matter with a clean corner of the used nappy, or with a damp tissue or cotton wool soaked in warm water. A baby wipe or some baby lotion can be used to finish cleaning the area. Once you have dried your baby's bottom, apply a small amount of a specially formulated barrier cream to protect the skin. Then put on a clean nappy.

You may find the nappy of your new baby stained dark pink or even red. This is because the urine of new borns contains substances called urates. You new borns immature bladder cannot hold urine for long so he may urinate as frequently as 20 times in every 24 hours. This will gradually lessen.

Your baby's first stool will be a blackish-green colour because the meconium from your amniotic fluid is working its way out of his system. Once feeding begins, the stool will change to greenish brown and then to yellowish brown colour.  The number of stool passed varies from baby to baby, but breast feeding babies pass fewer stools than bottle fed babies.

Disposable nappies are more convenient than toweling nappies. They are quick on easy to put on and remove and they don't require washing. Their disadvantage is that they are more expensive than the toweling nappies and are cumbersome to dispose of. Most end up being wrapped and put in the dustbin.

Disposable work by allowing moisture to soak through the top sheet into a absorbent filling, which is protected on the outside by a water proof backing. They are available in variety of shape and size. They need to be checked frequently because many of them are so good at keeping your baby dry that you forget to change them.
