Urinary tract infection during third trimester

During the reproductive years, women may get affected by Urinary Tract Infection which is very common. It is caused by bacteria from the urinary tract and in severe cases may even harm kidneys and bladder.

Women who have urinary tract infection during third trimester should be treated immediately otherwise they are at danger of giving birth to babies with mental problems or delay in development.

Apart from affecting the child mentally, urinary tract infection during third trimester that has not yet been treated will lead to low body weight of the newborn, kidney failure caused by Pyelonephritis. It may even cause delivery of the baby before the due date.

Urinary tract infection during third trimester should be immediately reported after the symptoms are known. These symptoms are clear for those who have had a history of UTI’s in the past. The signs are pain and burning sensation at the time of pee, cloudy urine with a strong odour, feeling of bladder fullness even after passing urine etc.

Urinary tract infection during third trimester or for that matter in any trimester may be prevented by drinking plenty of water, avoiding food with sugar, avoid caffeine and not delaying in passing urine.
